Exclusive! StyleJunkee interviews celebrated French hairstylist Guillaume Vappereau
Top hairstylist Guillaume Vappereau gives us the low-down on London Fashion Week, spring/summer 2010 key looks for hair, and how to deal with bad hair days…
How was London fashion week? What did you get up to there?
London fashion week was really exciting, being the 25th anniversary and in a new venue, this season had a fantastic energy. Yet again the British fashion Council has taken a massive step forward providing a fresh approach to fashion. To me, London is still the capital of fashion. For spring/summer 2010, I was working on the Ramon Gurillo show and with Duro Olowu.
What hair dos will we be sporting come spring/summer 2010?
For spring/summer 2010, the key looks for hair will be a new take on beach hair where you liberally apply some Bumble & Bumble surf spray, dry it in and then take your hair straighteners (preferably Cloud Nine irons), set at 150c and wave the hair on random pieces so that you can see some more movement. At the shows we also worked on dual textured looks where the front looks wet and slicked back and the rest looks dry, either left loose or tied into a braid and then wrapped into a chignon. Really simple hair will be another trend for spring/summer 2010: blow dry the hair to a smooth finish and then run your irons at low temperature to get that straight and natural healthy look without losing volume.
What’s your best tip for a bad hair day?
Apply a little bit of leave-in conditioner to tame the frizz, add a little movement with an iron on low temperature setting and either tie your hair in a loose ponytail or if your hair is not long enough, use an over-sized headband to detract the focus on your hair and control the flyaway at the front.
Which celebrity’s hair would you most like to style?
At the moment I’d love to get my brush on Little Boots to give her an edgy makeover…
Have you any secrets you’d like to share with us?
There is something I can share with you that not many people know about. The über cool make-up brand Illamasqua has named a bubble gum pink nail polish after my lovely baby daughter Loella!

Temperley at London Fashion Week
Temperley has always been a favourite at London Fashion Week and the designer’s S/S 09 collection was a triumphant success, showing maturity and glamour. Art deco prints and accessories mixed playfully with asymmetric silk evening gowns and the overall effect was pitched as a romantic odyssey. The audience was just about as star-studded as you could get: Emilia Fox, Laura Bailey, Rosamund Pike, Jacquetta Wheeler, Mischa Barton and Nick Rhodes, to name-drop but a few.
