Swiss design brand Vitra has been churning out modern classics for decades, and now they have finally paired up with our own British design powerhouse Heal’s for a concession, opening next month. It’s such an obvious pairing you wonder why they never did it before. Expect old favourites like the Panton chair, (up on the wall on the left), £177, and Turbine clock, (back centre), £330.

Last week, Heal’s got 18 students from the UCL Slade School of Fine Art to come into their Tottenham Court Road store and produce some art whilst the design-conscious customers watched on. And now all the work created is on sale, including acid-dipped plates, from £45, and Alex Springer, who took portraits on a pinhole camera and is selling them for only £15. Who knows? You may even bag the next Hirst or Emin. www.heals.co.uk

Heal’s – our favourite modern design store – is 200 this year, and to celebrate its centenary it is bringing back some of its antique classics. Ironically, they’re not going to be around forever – the special sale starts in February and is only on until April. 1930s bookcase, £1,450; 1932 wall clock with 18-day Zenith Swiss movement, £1,900; and Wedgwood dinner plates from 1921, £520.
