Apparently Boots’ Aqueous Cream has become an overnight best seller as the credit crunch sends people reaching for cheaper beauty essentials. Boots have revealed that some stores are having trouble keeping up with demand, ordering 10-12 tubs a day just to keep it on the shelves. Starting at £3.99, it’s clearly budget-friendly and you can hardly question its versatility - the cream can be used as a moisturiser, shaving cream, shower gel and even on chapped and dry lips… There’s just something so unglamorous about it - but, hey, who are we to argue with the wants of the masses?

Here’s a reason to visit Colchester (as if you need one!): the town now boasts the UKs first ever drive-through Boots store. Way to go! On the site of a former drive-through McDonalds, the store will apparently act as a pilot scheme and, if it’s successful, similar drive-throughs will be opened up countrywide. According to the manager of the Essex store, ’it works just like a restaurant drive-through. You take your prescription up to the first hatch, put it in, the information is checked and then the items are dispensed at the second window, without leaving the car’. Customers will also be able to take advantage of Boots photo printing and buy make-up and fragrance.

I’m all for a spot of shimmer and shine especially when it comes to make-up. As long as you don’t take it to extremes and end up looking like a member of Abba, subtly applied sparkly make-up can add instant glamour and drama. Bourjois’s latest offering on the glitz and shimmer front is appealing and I’m already plotting its first outing (bit sad I know!). The brand’s new (about to hit stores any day now) Shimmering Shine liquid eyeshadows rather cleverly contain 55% water to help it glide smoothly across the skin and its pearlised pigments create the all-important shimmer. There are no fewer than eight groovy shades from gold and brown to blue and rose. £6.95 by Bourjois available at Boots and Superdrug stores nationwide.

Hot off the plane from Australia and Asia the latest must-have beauty product to hit stores in the UK is set to cause a bit of a stir, not least for its quirky name: ‘Yes To Carrots’. With ingredients taken from Dead Sea mud and minerals as well as organic vegetables and fruits, its products are packed with the anti-oxidant power of Beta Carotene (a vitamin found at its highest concentration in carrots). The range’s Pampering hair mud conditioner is so yummy you’ll almost want to eat it and it does wonders for lack-lustre locks, pampering and nourishing with extracts of organic carrot, pumpkin, honey and orange. £5.49 from Debenhams.
