Well whatever you do don’t just take it to the nearest charity shop or the like… Marie Curie Cancer Care and Laura Ashley have teamed up to call for donations of old gold, silver or costume jewellery. The charity will then sell them on and take a share of the proceeds. They even want broken old watches, earrings and chains so get rooting around in the back of your jewellery box for those forgotten and unwanted treasures. The scheme runs till the end of July and jewellery can be taken into any Marie Curie Cancer Care shop or Laura Ashley boutique.

Make a dramatic statement with this ornate black mirror from Laura Ashley. Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen is a huge fan of black in the bedroom – his is fitted out totally in black and cream – so if it’s good enough for Britain’s most flamboyant interior designer it’s good enough for well… anyone (must be, right?!). Was £300, now £225 in the sale so hurry!
